Stephen King is known for being the master of the horror genre. There is no possible doubt that he has written some books that would scare the heck out of you. Some of his stories would probably leave you with a kind of uncomfortable feeling, and some of us were not able to sleep for weeks because we were afraid of monsters hidden in the wardrobe and crazy dogs.



But Stephen King has also written some books that would fall into the category of thriller, science fiction, and even young-adult adventures. A writer who does not only focus his production on one exclusive genre deserves unconditional love and worship, and that is exactly what we are doing in this post! So, let's have a look at some of these wonderful books because we are sure that at least one of them will catch your attention. The Shining
Genre: horror and mistery


Enter the Overlook Hotel, one of the scariest hotels in the US! This novel revolves around the Torrance family. Jack, the father, starts working in this hotel as a caretaker during the winter, when there are no guests. He is also a writer, but he has trouble finding inspiration to write. When he moves to the hotel, along with his wife Wendy and his son Danny, who can apparently talk to ghosts.

Misery
Genre: psychological horror


If you like to stay awake for several nights because you cannot keep a story out of your mind, this book is for you. One of  Stephen King's recurrent characters is writers. In this case, Paul Sheldon, a very successful writer, has a crash while driving his car, and he faints. He wakes up in a stranger's house, in a bed. A young woman comes in, and she tells him that she is his number one fan. She is a nurse, who decides to take care of him until he gets better. What Paul Sheldon does not know is that, apart from being her number one fan, she is also crazy! She reads the manuscript for the last novel of his most famous saga and finds out that Sheldon decided to kill her favourite character. Mr Mercedes
Genre: crime fiction


One of the most recent Stephen King novels included a huge change with regards to genre. If you are a fan of John Verdon or James Patterson, you cannot leave this novel out of your to-read list. Featuring a detective (Bill Hodges) as the main character, we get a totally different kind of novel, but which is just as good as any of his more "signature" novels. The novel begins with a Mercedes car plunging into a multitude, and killing eight people. This event is what grants the killer the name "Mr Mercedes" (as well as the book). Bill decides to investigate the matter further, in order to find the murderer, even though he is retired. Will you find out who the killer is?
